Irreconcilable Differences: Sculpture and Video by leonardogillesfleur

For Irreconcilable Differences, the art-duo leonardogillesfleur constructed a bicycle with handlebards pointing in opposite directions, and documented their attempt to put it to use. The bicycle was the first in a series of planned objects, based on their work together as collaborators. Along with an eccentric approach to self-portraiture and a study in space, movement, and transportation; the installation explored the conflicts implicit in social relations, coupling, and self-identity. In its absurdity, the piece also examined the nature of art as work performed for no (utilitarian) reason.
